shekelI belong to several kinds of ministerial associations: the local minister’s fraternal, a regional group called LeaderLink and a national group called Crosslink. A conversation keeps turning up in these spheres which I just cannot ignore. The money thing just does not seem to be working so well anymore.

Tithes are down in the local fellowships, and several pastors have got part or fulltime work (I work as both an author and business consultant). Others are wondering if there is a new model, or a different way to provide for the work we have to do. There is talk of marketplace ministry, and talk of wooing business people back (they’ve always been generous in the past haven’t they?)

When we think about doing the work of God, several things are needed: time, personnel and financial resources. When it comes to money, Christ stressed the need to seek (or strive) first for the Kingdom, and hold expectant faith that the Father in heaven would provide everything we need (Matthew 6:33).

whats-wrongHave you ever found yourself just churning inside?

At times it is discouraging to see that which is happening around the world today. The changes in society, morals, and governments is disconcerting. Even in many churches there are no longer absolutes as to what is wrong, right, good, or evil. It feels as if the world is turning upside down. Discontent was becoming a struggle. For some reason, my joy was harder to find. Just short of falling into despair, I remind myself all this is in the hands of Father G-d.
Regardless of that truth the question remains: What is it He has placed in my hands?

Early this year, that was a question which I wrestled with strongly.

It’s not that I ignore Father G-d. Asking the Lord for wisdom as to how to know what He would have me do is so important. I’ve testified before committees and commissioners. I’ve stood with others at times when it’s not the popular thing to do. Yet, there was something basic missing. With all the enthusiasm one can have I decided I would once again start reading through my Bible beginning at the book of Genesis. That meant reading at least a couple of chapters a day - in addition to my other scripture studies.
